Alake Harps on Nigeria’s Commitment to Safe Mining of Solid Minerals

The federal government says it remains committed to securing solid minerals’ mining areas, streamlining operations, and ensuring that mining practices align with global standards with no environmental harm.

The Minister of Solid Minerals Development, Dr. Dele Alake, who gave the assurance said he was working towards ensuring mining activities in the country have as little negative impact on the environment as possible, in line with international best practices.

Alake on his official X handle said the Ministry of Solid Minerals Development will collaborate with the Ministry of Environment to ensure safe mining operations in the country.

He said, “Today, I received the Minister of Environment, Balarabe Abbas Lawal, in my office and I emphasized our dedication to securing mining areas, streamlining operations, and ensuring that mining practices align with global standards for minimal environmental harm.

“The Ministry of Solid Minerals Development and the Ministry of Environment are working together to make sure that mining activities in our country have as little negative impact on the environment as possible, following the best international practices.”

Meanwhile, the Minister of Environment, Balarabe Abbas Lawal, has also expressed his readiness to partner with the Ministry of Solid Minerals Development, to ensure safety of the environment in mining locations across the country.

“The issues of security in our forests and around mining sites are the center of our focus. So also is the resultant impact of mining activities on our environment.

“The Ministry of Environment will key into the Solid Minerals Development Roadmap to ensure safety of the environment where mining activities are carried out around the country.”
