Alake Calls for Peaceful Coexistence Among Nasarawa Mining Firms.
The Minister of Solid Minerals Development, Dele Alake, has urged mining companies in Nasarawa Local Government of Nasarawa State to foster peaceful coexistence. His call came during a meeting with Governor Abdullahi Sule and members of the state cabinet at the Government House in Lafia on Friday.
Represented by Obadiah Nkom, the Director General of the Nigerian Mining Cadastre Office, Alake emphasized the need to resolve ongoing disputes among mining firms in the state ahead of the upcoming sixth National Council on Mining and Mineral Resources. The event, scheduled for November, will be hosted in Nasarawa State.
The Minister highlighted that a stable and harmonious environment is crucial for attracting and sustaining investment in the solid minerals sector. He expressed confidence in Nasarawa State’s ability to successfully host the event, citing its strategic importance in Nigeria’s mining industry.
Alake explained that Nasarawa State was chosen as the venue due to the state government’s strong commitment and contributions to mining activities over the years. He also noted that the November meeting would be divided into two sessions—Technical and Executive—designed to foster productive discussions that could elevate the mining and mineral resources sectors.
“The Council for Mining and Mineral Resources Development is an initiative of the Federal Executive Council, serving as a prime consultative platform for all stakeholders in the mining industry to engage with the ministry. It is the highest decision-making body on policy matters concerning mining and mineral resources development,” Alake stated, thanking the Nasarawa State government for hosting the event.
Governor Sule expressed his appreciation to the Federal Ministry of Solid Minerals Development for selecting Nasarawa State as the host for the National Council meeting. He also acknowledged the ministry’s efforts to mediate and resolve disputes between two mining firms and the state government.
