Accugas Awards Full University Scholarships to 50 Students in Akwa Ibom and Cross River
Uyo, Nigeria – Accugas Limited, the midstream subsidiary of Savannah Energy PLC, has granted full university scholarships to 50 students from Akwa Ibom and Cross River States under the Savannah Energy Education and Internship Training (SEE-IT) programme. The announcement was made during a ceremony held in Uyo, Akwa Ibom State.
The SEE-IT scholarship covers tuition, accommodation, study materials, and living expenses for the entire duration of each recipient’s tertiary education, whether in public or private universities. Beneficiaries will also receive specialized leadership and peak performance training to enhance their academic and professional success. Additionally, graduates of the program will be offered internship opportunities at Savannah Energy to gain hands-on experience in a world-class working environment.
Launched in 2023, the SEE-IT initiative is designed to support brilliant but financially disadvantaged students, ensuring they receive quality higher education. The program aims to contribute to the social and economic development of Akwa Ibom, Cross River, and Nigeria as a whole.
Beyond scholarships, SEE-IT expanded last year with the introduction of Environmental Awareness Clubs in 20 public secondary schools in Akwa Ibom State. These clubs educate students on career choices and sustainability, culminating in a quiz competition where the top five winners received cash prizes and automatic scholarships for the next academic year.
Speaking at the ceremony, Pade Durotoye, Managing Director of Savannah Energy, Nigeria, emphasized the company’s commitment to education and empowerment.
“Education unlocks human potential. We recognize that many talented individuals face financial barriers, and through SEE-IT, we are transforming lives, families, and the broader economy. This is more than just education—it’s about creating lasting impact.”
Expressing his appreciation, His Excellency Umo Bassey Eno, Governor of Akwa Ibom State, praised Accugas and Savannah Energy for their commitment to education:
“This scholarship initiative is a shining example of corporate social responsibility. Investing in education is investing in the future, and I urge other organizations to follow this commendable example.”
Nkoyo Etuk, Head of Stakeholder Relations and Regional Manager (South East), Savannah Energy, Nigeria, highlighted the rigorous selection process, noting that the 50 scholarship recipients were chosen from 1,481 applications through a transparent computer-based test and interview conducted by university professors.
“SEE-IT aligns with the United Nations Sustainable Development Goal 4 – Quality Education. This initiative is a direct investment in the next generation of leaders and professionals.”
With the SEE-IT programme gaining momentum, Savannah Energy continues to set a benchmark for corporate involvement in education and youth development in Nigeria.
