Access Bank Expands Women’s Empowerment Drive in Southern Africa with ‘W’ Initiative Relaunch
In a significant move to bolster women’s financial inclusion across Southern Africa, Access Bank Plc has relaunched its renowned ‘W’ Initiative in Zambia and Botswana. The initiative, tailored to meet the unique needs of women, offers a range of financial services, including savings, investment products, business loans, and mentorship programs, alongside efforts to enhance financial literacy and professional development.
Speaking during the relaunch in Zambia, Chizoma Okoli, Deputy Managing Director of Access Bank Plc, emphasized the bank’s commitment to empowering women. “Empowering women is a cornerstone of Access Bank’s mission to drive economic growth across Africa. Through the ‘W’ Initiative, we aim to provide tailored financial solutions while fostering environments that allow women to thrive,” she said.
During the event, Okoli engaged with Zambia’s Vice President, Mrs. W.K. Mutala Nalumango, to discuss creating supportive environments for Zambian women. As part of the bank’s commitment to community welfare, Access Bank Zambia pledged K500,000 to support nutritional programs led by the Vice President’s office.
Similarly, the relaunch of the ‘W’ Initiative in Botswana has introduced innovative financial solutions such as vacation, health, and educational loans. Sheperd Aisam, Managing Director of Access Bank Botswana, hailed the initiative as a transformative platform aimed at providing the tools, resources, and networks that women need to achieve personal and professional success.
For over 17 years, Access Bank has demonstrated its commitment to gender equality by investing N338.6 billion in financing more than 3.6 million women. Among its flagship offerings is the Maternal Health Service Support (MHSS), which provides discounted financing for fertility treatments and other health procedures, and has already benefited over 160 women and resulted in the birth of 104 babies through its financing scheme.
Now operating in 12 countries across Africa, the ‘W’ Initiative remains a vital part of Access Bank’s mission to provide women with the financial tools and opportunities needed to succeed.
